Dear Friend,
Last week I mentioned that our goal in launching a hedge fund was to
finance our ultimate goal, which is to found an international home
school -- a physical campus combined with an online distance
learning center, featuring live classes and recorded courses taught
by the world's foremost experts in fields which are often entirely
ignored in traditional curricula. For example...
* Want to truly understand the Constitution and its implications for
a just society? Kleon Skousen's people have it nailed.
* Want to learn the proper relationship between 'We The People' and
the government we created? Let's bring in Bill Huff from Lexrex.com.
* Want to truly understand the money issue before central bankers
destroy your future? Let's get Dr. Edwin Vieira.
* Need the real deal on the Second Amendment and its practical
application? How about a course from New Hampshire's 'Lethal Force
Institute.'
* Need the inside scoop on the home schooling revolution, and why it
has the government shaking in its boots? Let's get Dr. Brian Ray
from the National Home Education Research Institute.
Some of you have already expressed great enthusiasm with this
project, so please allow me to put some meat on these pedagogical
bones.
First, as always works best, we need to begin at the beginning. In
the beginning (to inversely paraphrase a very popular book ;-) there
was no light. There was only darkness. Mentally speaking, that is.
Ignorance spread over the land and the people lost their way. No,
I'm not talking about 2,000 years ago. I mean today.
Do you consider yourself a reasonably well-informed individual?
Perhaps you consider yourself a 'real American;' proud of our
country's heritage of freedom. You spring to your feet at the start
of sporting events to salute the flag and sing the national anthem.
But how much do you really know about the historical facts and
ideological origins of your nation?
No doubt you were taught as a young child about George Washington
chopping down the cherry tree and admitting the truth to his father,
saying 'I cannot tell a lie.' Sorry, that story was entirely
fabricated by a Sunday school teacher as a lesson in morality. Then
there's Washington throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac.
Sorry, no major league baseball player who ever lived could
accomplish that.
We were all taught about Paul Revere's famous ride to warn that the
British were coming. But Revere never completed that ride. He was
stopped by a British patrol. William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott
are the riders who actually made it to Concord with the news.
Then there's 'the shot heard 'round the world' when British regulars
confronted colonists on Concord green. Were you taught why the
British marched out from Boston in the first place? They were sent
there specifically to capture rebel weapons. It was a gun
confiscation raid, pure and simple.
The first American patriot to be cut down during that confrontation
fell dead onto the front steps of a church. Do you know what he was
running in to retrieve? Black powder for his friends' muskets. Does
your church store black powder under the pews in case today's
government gets a little out of control? Ha, ha. Or does it sign up
with the IRS instead for 501(c)(3) status which requires the
preacher to carefully avoid discussing political issues? Could the
real church please stand up?
You know, strain my brain as I might, I simply cannot recall one
minute of discussion of any of these important points in ALL
THIRTEEN years of my public school education. It wasn't until the
age of 45 that I began learning any of this on my own.
Did you know that your state has its own state constitution? Have
you ever read it? How about the federal constitution? Have you read
that?
Borrowing a page from Regis Philbin, if every adult you run into at
your next Fourth of July cookout were each promised $1 million
dollars if they could intelligently discuss all Ten Amendments known
as the 'Bill of Rights,' how many new millionaires would there be in
your life? Probably none, right?
OK, let's make it even easier. Let's do what the folks who
administer SAT exams have done twice since Lyndon Johnson signed the
National Education Act: lowered test scores by 100 points each time.
Let's lower the bar. Let's ask your friends to explain just FIVE
amendments, and ANY five of their choosing.
Many people could scrape together a general meaning of the First,
Second and Fifth Amendments from their vast mental library of TV
shows alone. How about the Ninth and Tenth where everything not
specifically spelled out in the list of enumerated powers permitted
to the federal government is reserved to the People and to the
States, respectively? Nope, those don't quite ring a bell. Sorry,
still no millionaires.
Sad, isn't it? This is supposed to be 'The Land of the Free.' Do an
ignorant people deserve liberty?
One of my favorite bumper stickers is 'Your Honor Student Learned
History From His Gym Teacher.' As funny as that is, it admittedly
paints with a pretty broad and negative brush.
But how many of today's high school honors graduates can
intelligently discuss real history? What are the consequences for
the future when today's brightest young people are in the dark about
what really happened in the past, knowing that it will almost
certainly happen again one day, albeit in a different form?
As has always been true, today's politicians reflect the society
from which they emerge. A semi-literate culture will turn out
semi-literate politicians. A society low on morals and standards
will turn out politicians who reflect those diminished standards.
How could things be otherwise? And who votes these clowns into
office? You do! We all do.
Our collective knowledge as a society of the principles of liberty,
free market economics, etc., upon which our nation was founded (or
our lack thereof) will determine the social culture from which
future politicians will arise.
Once in office, 'dumbed down' fellow citizens-turned-legislators
will enjoy the opportunity to be corrupted by power and 'lord it
over' the rest of us, including passing laws that strip our
liberties away, one by one. As Congressman Dr. Ron Paul mentioned,
no one in Congress even *read* the USA PATRIOT ACT before voting it
into law. So who's to blame, these bozos, or us?
I don't want to lecture you any further. You already know that what
I'm saying is true. So, is there a solution? If so, what is it? To
my way of thinking, the only possible solution is an informed,
literate electorate, a point Thomas Jefferson would pound away at,
over and over again, throughout his lifetime.
"I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society
but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened
enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the
remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion."
-- Thomas Jefferson
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of
civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." --
Thomas Jefferson
So let's pause here and have a little fun. See how many of the
following 10 questions you can answer, each one a 'soft ball' for
the average 14-year old home schooler. You may now pick up your
pencils. Ready? Go.
1. What was Christopher Columbus' real name? Who really financed his
attempt to discover a route to the Orient? What did he do for a
living during the decade prior to landing in the West Indies? What
did he do to the indigenous people he met there in order that they
might help him achieve his goals?
2. What form of state government does the Constitution require?
Where does it require this? What has been the fate of all
democracies in history? What is the difference between treason and
sedition? What are the grounds for sedition on the part of public
officials who have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the
Constitution 'against all enemies, foreign and domestic'?
3. Where in the Constitution is Congress authorized to spend money
on public education?
4. Where does the Constitution require that the states use no thing
but gold and silver coin in payment of debt? How do we know that the
framers of the Constitution were opposed to paper money? What
historical significance does that have for us today?
5. Who really founded (and funded) the NAACP? Was Rosa Park's
refusal to move to the back of the bus truly spontaneous? Why did
Coretta King, wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, have her deceased
husband's FBI records sealed until 2029?
6. Here are some facts about the murder of President John Fitzgerald
Kennedy you may not be aware of. Please discuss the likely
ramifications of each, including how many of the following made
their way into the Warren Commission report.
-- Over 50 average Americans -- men and women of all ages, strangers
to each other and sharing nothing more in common than the fact that
they had gathered on the lawn at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas on
November 22, 1963 to watch President Kennedy's motorcade pass by --
actually did end up sharing something very significant. Within five
years of the assassination they were all dead, many under mysterious
circumstances.
-- The blueprints of the water mains and sewer system under Dealey
Plaza are sealed under national security and remain unavailable for
inspection to this very day.
-- A September 18, 1996 article in the New York Times referenced the
belief by the former Soviet Union's KGB (the equivalent of the
America CIA) that Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson was the
primary perpetrator in the conspiracy to murder President Kennedy.
-- During Lyndon Johnson's first run for the seat of congressman in
the Texas state legislature, the vote was declared a tie. During the
recount it was discovered that all of the ballots had been
alphabetized in the ballot boxes. Johnson won by seven votes. Local
newspapers called him 'Landslide Lyndon.'
-- We all know that Jack Ruby (nee Rubenstein) shot and killed Lee
Harvey Oswald in the basement of the Dallas police building.
However, in addition to having been the personal supplier to Cuba of
guns and drugs on behalf of global crime boss Meyer Lansky, Ruby had
also served as a former personal assistant to two other important
historical figures:
1. Mobster Al Capone.
2. Congressman and future President, Richard M. Nixon.
-- Jack Ruby and Lee Oswald knew each other well, having pal'ed
around together while attending civil service flight training in
their 20's.
7. How many of the following acts -- each of which motivated shocked
and angry Americans to support a war in which millions of innocents
died -- occurred as actually reported via the corporate media, and
how many were fabricated?
-- The sinking of the Lusitania: World War I
-- The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor: World War II
-- The Gulf of Tonkin incident: Vietnam
-- Saddam Hussein's 'weapons of mass destruction': Invasion of Iraq
-- September 11, 2001?
8. The media has repeatedly championed the theory that the September
11, 2001 collapse of the World Trade Center towers was a result of
fire which weakened structural steel columns and support members,
causing the building to fail and collapse in a 'pancake' mode as
each failing floor successively dropped onto the floor beneath it.
Standard 'pancake' theory asserts that as much as 1/2 second is
required for each floor in a skyscraper to snap off, break away from
its vertical support columns and 'pancake' onto the floor directly
below. The WTC towers were 110 stories tall. Total 'pancaking' time
could therefore have been as great as 55 seconds, or nearly one full
minute. Yet numerous videos show the total collapse of each tower to
have taken just 12 seconds. On Earth, the rate of acceleration of a
free falling body is 32 feet per second/per second. A simple
calculation proves that a billiard ball dropped from the roof of
either of the World Trade Center towers (and taking into account
wind resistance) would have hit the Manhattan sidewalk in 12
seconds, about the same time it took the towers to collapse. This
could be true only if the vertical support of all of the lower
floors was removed just before the top of the buildings began to
drop, or was progressively removed just ahead of each falling floor,
or a combination of the two. Since the immutable laws of physics are
not amended by popular opinion, what does the fact that the public
overwhelmingly believes the official story tell us about the
condition of physics education in American high schools today?
9. To this day, James Madison University in Virginia -- which
advertises itself proudly as a conservative college teaching in the
true American tradition -- refuses to process the paperwork of
applicants who do not (or will not) provide a Social Security
Number. How many of the following were true when James Madison rode
by horse drawn wagon to Philadelphia to participate in the federal
convention that drafted a Constitution which does not authorize the
government to serially number its citizens?
-- He needed a SSN to register as a delegate.
-- He was frisked by 'Colonial Security' before being allowed to
enter the building.
-- He needed a marriage license to be legally married to the wife he
left home.
-- He needed to get a birth certificate for his children.
-- He needed to get them each a Sovereign Security Number (sorry)
-- He needed a license plate for his horse drawn carriage.
-- He needed an operator's license to drive the team of horses.
-- He needed a license to practice law.
-- He could not purchase a cold beverage from a street vendor who
was not licensed as a victualer.
-- He needed permission from the local sheriff to carry a concealed
black powder pistol.
-- He was required to file a tax return on his income as a lawyer.
-- He could be prosecuted on the basis of sworn testimony he
provided on that return.
-- His home could be surreptitiously entered without a warrant under
the USA PATRIOT ACT
10. When you cast your vote for the office of President of the
United States, you are not actually voting for the president
directly. You are in effect sending a message to federal 'Electors'
at the Electoral College who are free to consider or reject your
recommendation. For it is they, and not a plurality of those who
vote (or control the electronic voting machines), who actually
determine who the next President will be. How can our government be
said to be truly representative when 'We The People' are denied
direct access to the presidential selection process? Why was this
system set up this way?
OK, pencils down. There, that wasn't so bad, right? ;-)
Whether you consider some of the above questions irrelevant,
suspicious or even 'conspiratorial,' it can readily be demonstrated
that there are consequences of tremendous import arising from each,
consequences which trace their roots back to Magna Carta and go to
the very foundation of the great American experiment in
self-government.
If you would like to know the answers, if for no other reason than
to satisfy your curiosity ('Hey, maybe Phillips is onto something'
;-), drop me a line at gordon@higherearning.com and I'll provide you
with reference sources so you can conduct your own research.
By the time the average person attains adulthood, the mental
hologram of ideas and concepts constituting their paradigm of 'how
things really are' has usually dried hard as a rock, like papier
mache. From that point forward in their lives, only the most
exceptional or perspicacious individual will find the rear door to
'The Truman Show.'
The answer, of course, is to capture the attention of young,
yet-to-be-brainwashed minds before they get sucked into the
'Matrix,' not to put too fine a point on my pencil here. As Joseph
Stalin once commented, "Give me your four year olds and I will own
your nation." Or something similar.
Wouldn't it be great to cultivate a generation of young people, each
a 'mental guerilla,' ready to sally forth into public or private
life, armed with facts based upon real history?
Imagine a generation of tomorrow's adults, parents, voters and
leaders who are not deceived about 'the way things really are.' Who
will know how to 'thread the needle,' 'make a difference, and
effectively 'fight city hall,' whether at the local or federal
level? Who will know a wooden nickel when they see one? Who have a
clue who is actually 'running the show' at the global level, and why
these people may not have our best interests in mind? Who can 'turn
back the clock,' pull 'a wide 180,' and steer America back around in
the right direction?
Yes, starting a school of this nature is a big job, but somebody's
gotta' do it. Sure, we could seek funding from 'deep pocket'
conservatives. We've already made contact with a few. But they'd
want to sit on the board and call the shots. Better to raise the
funds ourselves.
Which is where leverage comes into play. If we can help enough
others get what they want, we can have what we need. And the school
can remain financially autonomous in the process.
Want to help? Then please consider the lender opportunity I wrote of
last week. As a 'Friend of the Liberty Fund' you can help us get
this hedge fund off the launch pad. In return, we'll contract to pay
you ten times the amount of your loan. Please see last week's report
for details, or write to me.
